Angel believes that children need to feel safe and secure before they can learn. Her home-based programme takes an approach which is nurturing but also challenges children to become independent thinkers. She doesn’t believe in a one-size fits all approach and uses many different teaching philosophies so that every child’s needs are met.
In Angel’s programme there’s lots of time for free play and mess is an important part of the process but cleaning up is part of the deal when it’s time to move on to the next activity so there’s more space to explore. There’s lots of fun equipment to stir up children’s imagination in a variety of ways and children are encouraged to take their time to do activities so that they can gain their own learning experiences.
Angel uses the outside and natural environment as often as possible in the children’s learning. There’s fun to be had whatever the weather or season, whether it’s wearing gumboots, raincoats and jumping in puddles or skittles down the hallway or building tents under the kitchen table.
Angel graduated teachers college in 1999 and has been involved in teaching ever since. She has been a Home-based Educator for five years, and has enjoyed being able to pursue a rewarding career with children while still being home with her own family.
